Don Compton

My name is Donald Compton MD. My story is about as differant as anyone elses. The troubles with my feet began many years ago with a simple crush injury that started the slowly progressive burning neuropathy. Over the years I consulted with many MD's and really got nowhere. I was forced to retire in 1992 due to problems with MS. Despite the reduced activity the pains just increased even while using a wheelchair for most of my mobility. Some of the surgeons I consulted recommended that I see Dr Ertl, but I didn't know anything special about him so it just fell onto the back burner while I worked to solve the pain.

Well one morning in Vail,Colo I awoke to the vision of tip of my rt great toe having died and fallen off. That started a whole new approach to the problem that eventually led me see a Dr I did not know but after meeting developed a solid repore with that after several dangerous cardiac related hospitalizations myself and Dr. Jan Ertl agreed that amputation was the only way I was going to live. I went to the hospital and had a left bk Ertl amputation performed. Was it easy?no. Was it worth it?yes

Well the left residual has healed; prosthetic fitting is proceding, and the only thing that remains is to amputate the right leg and that is to happen in the next 2 months.I'm looking forward to having a more pleasant rest of my life and being able to live without meds. I will strongley support anyone who feels that way
