Normally, a patient receiving an Ertl Procedure is able to start working with a prosthetist for the creation of a prosthetic leg at approximately 6-10 weeks post-op. However, receiving the prosthetic leg doesn't automatically relate to full mobility and a complete return to the level of activity prior to the issue which resulted in the amputation.
Several factors are involved in the speed of recovery, some of which include physical healing ability and following directions from the surgeon / prosthetist / physical therapy team. While several patients have shown a rapid return to active lifestyle, just as many will take numerous months of slow progression to get to the level they are desiring. A slow return to activity is not a sign of a person's lack of desire/motivation, but just an indicator that their body is needing more time to become adjusted to the change.
As we are all individuals, don't compare your progress against the progress of others .... stay in contact with your medical team (Surgeon, CP & PT) and they will be your best judge of progress. The main thing to remember is:
Don't Give Up!
